For colored play dough, add a few drops of food coloring to the liquid before you mix it with the flour and salt.

Play dough can be rolled into “snakes” and then used to form letters or numbers.  This activity can be used for practicing learning the letters to spell sight words, spelling words, names, and new words a child is reading in a shared story.  It is a great activity for building small muscle coordination in little fingers.  And of course, play dough can be used for building anything a child wants to dream up in his or her imagination.
